Nearly 1,700 new positive Covid test results in Somerset

More than 1,600 new positive coronavirus test results have been recorded in Somerset, according to the latest government figures.

NHS statistics reveal that 1,694 positive test results have been recorded in the county in the last 24 hours of recorded data.

302 were recorded in Sedgemoor, while 301 were recorded in Somerset West and Taunton.

All other local authority areas in Somerset have recorded fewer than 300 positive test results.

Government statistics also reveal three new deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test result in the county.

The number of new positive Covid test results recorded in the last 24 hours of recorded data, in each of the six regions of Somerset, is as follows (total since the start of the pandemic in brackets):

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 278 (42,217)
  • Mendip: 145 (22,520)
  • North Somerset: 415 (44,860)
  • Sedgemoor: 302 (25,133)
  • Somerset West and Taunton: 301 (27,474)
  • South Somerset: 253 (30,570)

The number of new deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive test in the last 24 hours of recorded data, in each of the six regions of Somerset, is as follows (total since the start of the pandemic in brackets):

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 1 (283)
  • Mendip: 1 (209)
  • North Somerset: 0 (392)
  • Sedge: 0 (214)
  • West Somerset and Taunton: 0 (249)
  • South Somerset: 1 (222)

From tomorrow in England, the Covid rules are changing and people will no longer have to wear face masks in indoor public places.
