Many Somerset bin and recycling collections still ran out

There will be “significant issues” with garbage and recycling collections this week in Somerset, people are warned.

A spokesperson said: “We expect significant issues with collections this week, due to the continued shortage of drivers nationwide and the growing impact of Covid’s self-isolation that is on the rise. now being felt in Somerset.

“Garbage and garden waste collections have been prioritized and maintained without major problems, but an increasing number of recycling collections have been missed and this is expected to continue this week.

“Increasingly, we won’t be able to come back for some of those missed recycles until the following week’s collection day.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that the same area is not affected twice in a row.”

Teams worked on Saturday (July 17) to make up for missed recycling collections on Thursday July 15 and Friday (July 16) last week, but were unable to reach all of them, the spokesperson said.

However, anything not yet collected will not be collected until this week’s pickup (July 22 and 23).

They are mainly in:

Mendip: Locations including Batcombe, Cranmore, Evercreech, Nunney, Trudoxhill, Wanstrow, Witham Friary.

South Somerset: Locations including Hinton St George, Ilminster and around Isle Brewers.

Somerset West and Taunton: Locations including Williton and Stogursey.

Meanwhile, recycling pickups will also be missed in parts of the Bower Estate in Bridgwater today (July 19) and these won’t be released until next Monday (July 26).

“Sincere apologies from SWP and SUEZ for this disruption. Thank you for your patience,” added the spokesperson.
