Launch of new cheap flights from the UK to New York

A new airline launching this summer could give more Britons than ever a taste of New York’s Big Apple. The Mirror reports that Norse Atlantic Airways has opened bookings on its new flights between London Gatwick and New York JFK, and there are currently return fares from £255.

There are two cabin choices: economy and premium. Passengers can choose from light, classic and more fares – the latter including one baggage allowance, two meals and flexible tickets. The daily service will begin operations on August 12, with services on the stunning Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The airline says it plans to add more US destinations, although it hasn’t given a timeline yet. As well as the new route, the company will operate temporary flights between Gatwick and Oslo this summer, also with premium and economy cabins, and fares from £41 each way.

Holidays to the United States have become a little more expensive this month, with the destination increasing visa fees by 50%. The cost of an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), the visa most Britons use to enter the country, has risen from £11 to £17.

The document lasts for two years and is mandatory for visitors to the United States, such as Britons using British passports, traveling under the Visa Waiver Scheme. Anyone crossing the country to go elsewhere must also have one.
