Cooperative banking issues affect mobile and online banking – what we know

Customers of The Co-operative Bank have reported outage issues with many unable to access online or mobile banking apps.

The reports began appearing on Down Detector, a website outage reporting service, around 7:27 a.m. on Thursday, January 27.

The issue peaked at 8:12 a.m. with over 100 reports on Down Detector.

The outage currently affects 48% of customers trying to watch TV, while 31% reported problems with online banking, according to Down Detector.

The Co-operative Bank “studies” the problems

The Co-operative Bank outage is affecting customers across the country, according to Down Detector.

“Banking apps are down again,” one customer said.

“It’s been happening far too recently, it’s so embarrassing, especially when you have to run a business.”

Another said: “Here we go again. Online banking/offline apps. I can’t get through. What’s going on… again?”

The Co-operative Bank apologized to any customers affected by banking problems, adding that technical teams are “reviewing” the issues.

Responding to a customer, the bank said: “I am very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. We have investigated this morning.”

The bank is asking some customers to try logging out and then logging back into their accounts.

Around 21% of customers experience connection problems with The Co-operative Bank’s online services.

It comes just weeks after Natwest and RBS mobile banking app outages left many customers unable to access their accounts online.
