Bridgewater woman stole $75,000 from nonprofit in Somerset Co: Prosecutor


BRIDGEWATER, NJ – A Bridgewater woman has been arrested and charged after police say she stole more than $75,000 from a Somerset County-based nonprofit where she worked, according to the district attorney. County of Somerset, John P. McDonald.

Jolee Roberts, 55, of Bridgewater, has been charged with second degree theft by deception, two counts of third degree forgery and fourth degree credit card theft.

Roberts had served as the chief financial officer of Bridgewater-based Middle Earth for 15 years, she said LinkedIn page.

Middle Earth is a non-profit community agency located in Somerset County that has provided young people with prevention and intervention services to help them become responsible, self-reliant members of the community since 1972, according to its website.

The SCPO began investigating after Roberts was fired due to concerns about the irregularity of funds that was uncovered, according to McDonald.

An investigation revealed that Jolee Roberts cashed numerous checks and used credit cards issued to the nonprofit organization for unauthorized purchases for more than $75,000 during a two-year period while she was employed by the non-profit organization.

On July 20, Roberts was arrested at her home without incident. She was taken to Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
