Barclay Communications of Belfast wins £ 750,000 contracts with UK government


Barclay Communications, Northern Ireland’s largest indigenous and locally owned telecommunications company, has won two major government contracts in Britain.

The deals, which were won through highly controlled and competitive bidding processes, will see the business process process over 1,000 communications connections collectively for a common value of over £ 750,000.

A tender, which will see the provision and management of hundreds of connections, has been awarded to Barclay Communications by the Welsh Parliament and will cover three leading networks: O2, Vodafone and EE.

The two-year £ 250,000 deal with the Welsh Parliament saw Barclay Communications make several hundred connections and deliver new handsets to the customer within three working days to coincide with the body’s recent election event elected.

Meanwhile, the New Forest District Council’s contract in Hampshire, England covers more than 750 connections with plans for further growth in the pipeline. This contract is expected to extend over a period of three years with a view to continuing the partnership in the future with an additional two-year agreement.

Worth £ 521,000, Barclay Communications’ work with the New Forest District Council will refresh all of the organization’s communications material, while creating a bespoke package that ensures that sensitive Council data are secured at the highest level. This includes a personalized virtual private network (VPN), as well as additional security around all mobile users in the account.

“Working with the Welsh Parliament has been a challenge that the Barclay Communications team have appreciated. To meet the communication requirements for existing and new MPs, the solution had to be delivered within an exceptionally short timeframe. We made sure the handsets and connectivity were provided and onsite, ready for the required completion date. “

Mr. Megahey continued, “Our contract with the New Forest District Council has great potential to grow from the initial 750 connections we provided. The main challenge with this account was to maintain the required privacy and security in a communications package when it comes to handling sensitive data. We engaged with our partner Wandera who was able to create a tailor-made solution that revolves around a private VPN as well as additional security around all mobile users on the account.

“Our solution also allowed users to benefit from 4G and 5G speeds, opening the viability of other projects that had been scaled down previously. “

Mr. Megahey added, “These important new contracts speak volumes about the investment we have made in the business over the past few months and the dedication of our staff to our customers and our business. I really enjoyed watching the changes take shape. Initiatives include internal training programs, new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, investments in expanding our engineering, service and delivery teams, and a complete corporate overhaul.

“We are continually looking for ways to develop and improve the business and are now planning a complete renovation of our offices in line with the new branding and the introduction of CCaaS (Contact Center as a Solution) which is taking place. will add to our CRM and telephone infrastructure. This is really exciting because it will allow us to add layers to our customer experience, integrating a multi-channel approach such as WhatsApp, text or web chat, allowing all customers to choose how they want to interact with us.

“We’re driven by our customers, so it’s important that we keep evolving to meet new demands, so adding AI (artificial intelligence) and many other cool features will help keep customers connected, cared for. and engaged at all times while enabling our teams to continue working with each client personally and effectively.

The contracts won come just two months after the Barclay Group invested £ 2million in its landline division, creating 35 new positions.

In recent months, the Barclay Group has also undergone a complete overhaul of all of its companies, including a new website and logos to reflect its growth over the past 25 years.
